Cambridge University

Early records aren‘t stored, however the university grew from an association of scholars inside the city of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom, presumably formed in 1209 by scholars escaping from Oxford University following a fight using the city's population. 

University of Oxford and Cambridge, Oxbridge often dubbed, has had an extended history of competition with one another, and it is widely regarded like the most elite and prestigious universities inside the United Kingdom. Cambridge is a member of the Russell Group (a network of large, research-oriented universities Britain), the Coimbra Group (an association of leading European universities), and the LERU (League of European Research Universities, the League of European Research Universities).
