HISTORY

Oxbridge-inspired tutorial "honors program" at Swarthmore students are allowed to take double-credit seminars from the preparatory year and often write honors theses. Seminars and usually consist of four to eight students. Students in seminars will usually writes at least three papers ten pages of each seminar, and often one of these papers is to expand in a paper 20-30 pages at the end of the seminar. At the end of that year, the honors student oral and written exams conducted by outside experts in this field. I usually give one student in each discipline "highest honors"; others are awarded the "honors" or "honour"; rarely, denied any honors altogether by the external examiner. Each section is usually a maximum degree for admission to honours programme.
